Tools for the design and evaluation of sustainable drainage systems (SuDS)

This site provides a suite of tools for each stage of the SuDS design and evaluation process.

  1. Calculate the pre-development (i.e. natural) runoff rate for your site to define and plan flow controls for the SuDS scheme - using the Greenfield runoff rate estimation tool.
  2. Where areas can be connected to soakaways or other infiltration systems, estimate infiltration storage volumes - using the infiltration volume design tool.
  3. For runoff that cannot be infiltrated, estimate the total attenuation storage volume needed across the site to meet your allowable site discharge rate - using the surface water storage volume design tool.
  4. Distribute the SuDS across your site using source control SuDS connected to downstream conveyance and storage components. Evaluate the hydraulic (including Interception) and water quality performance of the overall SuDS scheme - using the SuDS performance evaluation tool.
  5. Check that the SuDS system delivers the SuDS Manual water quality management requirements - using the Water quality assessment for SuDS developments tool.
